We are looking for the best and fastest way to travel from Monterosso al Mare to Courmayer. We were thinking of taking the train to La Spezia or Genoa and renting a car for the drive but we would need to turn the car in at Turin(Torino). Our flight home is out of Turin. It looks like another option would be to take the train all the way to Turin, pick up the rental car in Turin for the drive to Courmayer. I am not sure which option would be the fastest. Any other options? I would appreciate any suggestions and input on these options. Thank you!

Monterosso to Torino can be done by train in 3.5 hours with one connection (sometimes at Genova, sometimes La Spezia). (Continuing by train to Aosta is quite a bit longer, changing at Torino and Ivrea.) Of course, there are more train departures to Genova, and some of them direct.
Both Genova and Torino have multiple train stations, with car rental offices not right at the stations, but more often about 1.5 km away. Either one can work, with neither standing out as especially convenient. I have not driven in either city.
