We are arriving in Milan and will be traveling to Monterosso. Please share any experiences you have had taking the train to this area. Thanks
I didn't take it, but there is a direct train from Milano Centrale, via Genoa, bound for La Spezia, that stops in Monterosso.
When I did it, we had to connect in Genoa. Either way it is not difficult.
We travelling from Bellagio to Monterosso al Mare. Has anyone made this trip and what is the least hassle free way of doing it?
Ferry to Varenna or Como
Train to Milano Centrale then change to train to Monterosso
I traveled from Rapollo to Milano train station
You could do the reverse and it’s a short train to Monterosso
Rapollo was a wonderful town to base my visit of that coast, including the Cinque Terre due to the position of the train
The trains that go from Milan Centrale to Monterosso without needing to change trains in Genoa or somewhere else along the route, are some Intercity trains (I think there are about 4 a day). All other options require to change trains somewhere.
Be aware that in summer those direct (no change) Intercity trains to Monterosso do sell out (at least the least expensive 2nd class seats) especially the ones leaving in the mornings. So it is imperative that you book ahead if you travel in summer.
