WE ARE TAKING A CRUISE THAT SPENDS A DAY IN MESSINA. I THOUGHT WE WOULD GO DIRECTLY TO TAORMINA WHEN WE DOCK. I KNOW THAT THE BUS OR TRAIN IS AN OPTION. DOES ANYONE KNOW
OF A PRIVATE TOUR COMPANY IN THAT AREA?
ALSO, ANY GOOD RESTAURANTS/SHOPS IN TAORMINA. THANKS
Taromina has a traffic free main street at the "top" of the town that stretches the length of the top level. It is full of great shops and there are many cafes. We have eaten a many of them and it would be hard to pick just one but as a town that grew up on the taste of English travelers it will suit most Americans very well. There are signs here and there on the main street that point to cafes a block or so down the lower levels. That seems to be where most of the restaurants are with retail shops in the man drag. Walk all the way to the end of the street for great view of the Med and a popular spot for locals to congregate. Nice town.
Beth,Charles is right on, when he says that there are a lot of neat restaurants in Taormina, and some of the best are right off that main drag. Even though it is not much of a town, it has plenty of little shops, and my wife loves to buy shoes there. She found some great prices, and styles. We took the bus to Taormina, cause it drops you off right in town.......but it takes 1 1/2 hrs. The train only takes 40 minutes. Then you take the Interbus up to the town.
Thanks for the info! Do you know if tickets for the
bus or train should be purchased in advance? Can't
wait to go shoe shopping!

Beth: Be sure to dine at La Cisterna del Moro, located on Corso Umberto. It is a wonderful pizzeria with a gorgeous view of the ocean and Mt. Etna. This was by far, the best view on a beautiful patio. The Caprese and Pizza were fabulous. Taormina is a wonderful place. Enjoy! Theresa
