Travel from Malpensa to LaSpezia

Hi- I'm having difficulty using the timetables online. Could someone help? I'm arriving in Malpensa late morning (July '15) and I don't see any trains traveling from Milan Centrale to La Spezia until late afternoon? Could this be? If so, what can I do at Milano Centrale for so many hours? Is there a place to store luggage?

I'd appreciate it if someone could take me through this as I'd like to plan my arrival into Milan and then to La Spezia accordingly.

Thanks in advance. Mark

The Malpensa Express train (www.malpensaexpress.it/) is a separate operator, not reflected on train schedules from www.Trenitalia.com or DeutscheBahn. Most other schedules are currently published through June 13. It runs to Milano Centrale station about twice per hour (confirm that is the destination of the train that you board). At Milano Centrale, you can buy the ticket for the next leg to La Spezia or your actual destination, if you're staying in a different town.

Very helpful thank-you! One last question: Do you know how often trains run from Milano Centrale to La Spezia (I'm aware that there's a transfer in Genoa on some of the routes)?

One last concern: When I visit site : www.Trenitalia.com --and fill in departure/arrival info, number of passengers etc.. (in left corner box).. I get N/A and error message.

Just want to make sure that there are plenty of trains running from Milan to La Spezia the day I arrive ( 7 July '15).

Thanks again.

The Trenitalia website defaults to the hour in which you are using the search engine, so you have to change the departure time. It trips me up sometimes and I use the site frequently. Put in a time of "8" or earlier and you will see morning trains as well as later ones.

If you are getting some type of error message, are you typing the name of the station in English? That won't work. Start typing "Milano" and before you finish, the pull-down menu will appear with all the local stations; choose Milano Centrale. For La Spezia, you want La Spezia Centrale.

Are you clicking on the British flag icon near the top of the page? This will translate the page and give you all train options.

The trains for July may not be loaded yet. For times check the same day of the week in June.
This should bring up the full timetable.

mrk,

It would help to know a few more of the details of your trip. What time does your flight arrive at MXP? Is La Spezia your end destination, or are you going elsewhere?

Pick a date in May and you will find lots of trains (the schedule should be similar when you travel in July) -some with no change. Have a great trip.
