Two couples need to get to montalcino from lake orta on a Sunday. We now have decided that maybe the best way considering time constraints is to hire a car and driver to go from Lake Orta to Montalcino. We will then need to get from Montalcino to MXP. Previous suggestions included a taxi to MXP, then rent a car to get to Montalcino. Anyone have any thoughts. Thank You
I hope you realize that you are talking about 5-6 hour (over 300 miles) drive to go from Lake Orta to Montalcino and a similar amount of driving to get to Malpensa.
Renting a car is one way. Make sure to get really good directions or better, a GPS. The roads are not well marked--at least to this tourist.
I'm guessing you're taking the RS Village Italy tour. If so, I'm assured they'll help arrange a shuttle to Malpensa for you and you could reserve a car there. Driving to Montalcino won't be too hard. You can print out directions at Viamichelin.com
