We are staying in the lake country and have a mid morning flight from Malpensa. Rather than going into Milan for the evening before our floght, we are considering the ealy morning train. Has anyone had experience taking the train early morning to Malpensa from the lake country of Italy?
Dpending on where you are in the Lakes region, you may not have to go all the way back to Milan. There is a train station at Malpensa, it just doesn't have a direct connection to Milano Centrale station.
You can play with the options on www.trenitalia.it
Malpensa is the station name.
For example, if you were staying in Stresa on Lake Maggiore, it would take you about an hour to an hour and 1/2 to get to Malpensa with one train change.
Como is longer with more changes.
You might want to inquire at your hotel and see if there is a shuttle available. Depending on the season, there have been reports of an airport shuttle that can be arranged.
bob,
It depends on where you will be. I used the Alibus from Stresa http://www.safduemila.com/prima_di_alibus_2010.html
Hi Bob. We took a shuttle bus from Varenna (Lake Como) to Malpensa for a 10:30 flight on a Saturday morning. We booked the shuttle bus from the travel agency in Varenna & it worked out well. The cost was around 100 euros for my husband & myself. While it was pretty expensive, we were pretty tired by the end of the trip & didn't want to bother lifting our luggage onto & off of trains & switching from the train to the bus in Milan, etc. so it was worth the expense. I think the bus company might have been Alibus...sounds familiar. Have a great trip.
Depending on where you are staying, you do not necessarily have to connect through Milan. Many of the Lake destinations have shuttles directly to Malpensa. Where are you leaving from?
bob,
Could you provide a bit more information on which "lake country" you'll be staying at (Lugano, Maggiore, Como)?
Also, what time does your "mid morning" flight depart?
thanks for the feedback. we haven't finalized our trip to know whether we'll be at Como or Maggiore. Opinions are very welcome for that decision.
Our plane leaves at 10:30 am
