We hope to travel from CT to Siena- is this possible by train from La Spezia or are there private drivers that might pick us up in La Spezia, show us the Tscanny countryside on the way and deliver us to Siena??
Take the train from your CT town to Siena. Then hire a driver in Siena to show you the Tuscany countryside. This will save you a lot of money.
Thanks for responding. Since I posted my question, I've done more research and it looks like taking the train from CT to Florence and then a bus from Florence to Siena is the best way. Do you agree?
Taking the train to Florence and then a SITA Rapido bus is just fine as long as you understand that the SITA bus terminal is a long block from the main train station. It is not the bus terminals that are adjacent to the train station. Not difficult. Go out the Track #1 side of the train station, cross, the busy street and then look for either via degli Orti Oricellari and Via dell Albero. Go down either street about 300 feet and you will see the SITA bus terminal.
The bus takes you right up to the Siena city wall. If you take the train to Siena, the train station is about 1/2mile from the city and it's a bit uphill. However, you can take a local city bus from the train station to the city wall. You'll like the SITA bus better. It's a really nice bus.
We skipped Florence and just changed trains in Empoli on the way to Siena.
we took the train to florence last month and then the sita bus to siena. as stated before the bus drops you off right in town. good luck:):)
Thanks for all the help.
