Travel from Florence to Rome FCO airport

Approx how long should I allow for travel from Santa Maria Novello in Florence to Rome FCO Airport? We will be leaving Florence and flying to Palermo from Rome and need to know when to book my flight based on the length of time I need for travel.

Do I take the high speed train from Florence to Termini Station, then the express train to Rome FCO? Is there not a train station at the airport? I’m having a hard time figuring this out and it seems like it should be simple!

Please help!!

It couldn't be easier, turn on your PC:

www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

From: Firenze SM Novella

To Fiumicino Aeroporto

Day: the day of your flight.

Time: Your choice

Click search. The third column shows the journey time. Click the small arrow next to the number of changes to see where you'll have to transfer. There is a direct train to the airport departing from Firenze at 7;38 and, if I'm not wrong, another one at 11:38.

Thank you both for your info!!

I think I can combine your suggestions....
The Florence airport does not have a flight to Palermo on May 30 for a decent price
But the Pisa airport does.

We can take a train from Florence to Pisa and then fly from Pisa to Palermo in less time than going through Rome.

The train tickets are so confusing...
If I’m looking at it correctly, we can take a train from Florence to Pisa with 1 connection. The train is only 1 hour and 8 minutes. Then we can fly direct to Palermo. So we would leave Florence at 7:00 going to Pisa and arrive in Palermo at 11:45. Vs leaving Florence at 7:38 going to Rome and arriving in Palermo at 1:00.

Do you have any suggestions on purchasing train tickets? This is our first trip and the trains seem very confusing!

Help!

One more question.... if we arrive at the Pisa airport at 8:08 and our flight out is at 10:20, would we have time to take a taxi to the Leaning Tower just to view it for a few minutes, and get back to the airport in time for our 10:20 flight? That would mean we have approx 1 hour from the time we leave the airport until we need to be back to the airport. It seems a shame to be in Pisa for 2 hours and not see the leaning tower.

And does anyone know approx what the cost would be for a taxi to pick us up at the airport, take us to the tower, wait for us and take us back to the airport?

And does anyone know approx what the cost would be for a taxi to pick us up at the airport, take us to the tower, wait for us and take us back to the airport?

Appears fare is 12 euro each way, with a 25 euro per hr wait fee. ( http://www.cotapi.it/en/our-services-call-us-we-are-ready-to-serve-you/fares-inner-city-run ) Travel time is 15-20 minutes each way

Do not forget time to get from train station to airport // what are you going to do with luggage? // retrieve luggage, get through security and board plane. Depending on airline, boarding closes 30 minutes before scheduled departure.

I would be inclined to go to Pisa late the day before the flight and have the evening or morning to view the Tower.

Get a train ticket from Firenze SM Novella to Pisa Centrale. You'll arrive in Pisa at 7:49. Get off the train, Exit the station and tell the first taxi in line that you want to go to the airport stopping at the tower for some time.

The fixed fare from Centrale station to the Airport is only € 9 (per car), but I'm afraid you'll have to pay more.

Note down the train code of the Regionale train from Florence to Pisa (RV 3139?). You'll have to look for that code on Departure monitors.

Get train tickets on line, this way you won't have to time stamp them before boarding.

The RV3139 should make only one intermediate stop at Empoli, around 20 minutes before calling at Pisa.

We will just be carrying backpacks. Not real luggage. So I thought we could take the train to the airport station, take a taxi to the tower, have them wait for us and then return to the airport.

We will arrive at the airport train station at 8:08 and our flight to Palermo will leave at 10:20. Is it at all possible to just go to the tower and view it for a few minutes and get back by 9:30 to wait for our flight. We don’t want to change from those plans. If there isn’t enough time, we won’t worry about it.... just thought if it would only take an hour so, we could fit it in.
