Travel from Florence to Praiano May 9, 2023 And other small trips.

My husband and I are traveling in Italy for month of May, both ages 70. We are a little intimidated by arranging our own travel but are pretty sure we can do it with a little expert advice from some well seasoned travelers.
We will be going from Florence to Praiano on May 9 for 4 nights, then to Ravello for 2 nights and will need to get back to transportation hub on May 15. We have rented an AirBNB in both places so would like to be dropped at the houses.

Any suggestions on the best way to get there. Prefer high speed train to whichever southernmost location, if that makes sense. Thanks so much!

You can take a fast train (about 5 hours) from Florence to Salerno on either Italo or Trenitalia. From Salerno you can take a ferry or the bus, but you could also take a taxi to Praiano which would be quicker and easier with your luggage. According to Rome2Rio, a taxi will be about $50. In my opinion that would be worth it. After you settle into Praiano, take the Sita bus somewhere such as Positano to become accustomed to riding the bus, then when it’s time to leave Praiano, take the bus to Amalfi, and from there transfer to another bus which goes to Ravello. It’s easy. Leaving, go back to Amalfi which is the transportation hub, and take the bus or the ferry back to Salerno.
Pack light!

Is there advantage going to Naples or Salerno in terms of getting a car or other ride from there to Praiano? Thanks

Also, if we want to be on the Right side of the train for views toward ocean, are the seats on train website shown in-the direction train is traveling? Geesh, I sure sound like a newbie. Thanks again.

First of all, the train doesn’t run along the coast so don’t worry about what side you’re sitting on. Sure, you can definitely reach Praiano via Naples. In Naples you would take the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento and then take the Sita bus south to Praiano, or you could take a ferry from Naples to Positano and then the bus to Praiano. Which ever way you go from the north or from the south there are going to be a few transfers, and to avoid that you could just hire a private driver in Naples or Salerno.

If you take the bus to positano, buy a return at the same time. It’s much easier than trying to buy a return ticket in positano. There is also the smaller buses you can use other than the CITA bus. But as others have stated. Take the ferry from Salerno to Amalfi and then the bus to Praiano. Be prepared. Praiano is all stairs! Take your time and enjoy.

Thanks. I thought they went up some of the streets. I’ll start walking stairs at the local university!
