Travel from Civitacechia to Rome

My husband and I are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary with a Med cruise and trip from Rome through Cinque Terre (3 nights) then on to Venice for 2 nights.
My question is, is there a Rome transport pass that includes travel from the port? We'll only be in Rome for a short one night before heading to CT the next afternoon.

No. How much luggage? Month of year? Will the cruise company shuttle you to the train for free?

Sad to say, Civitavecchia is famous among travel agents for its distance and inconvenience, despite its heavy usage!

In fact, the train (almost a mile from the port) to Termini Station-Rome and some other Rome stations, is really cheap, no reservations, about an hour.

But if you add in boat-to-train, and Termini to hotel, most 50th Anniversary travelers would just spring for a private car service, or the overpriced cruise company transfer. I often ask the hotel who they recommend for a car service, because that company then has an incentive to do a good job.

Sometimes our Rome hotel offers a car from the airport or to Civitavecchia, if we stay, say, 3 nights.

Unless you frequently take the subway in NYC, Chicago, or Washingon (for example) public transportation may not be the best plan for this 3-seat, long, transfer.

Just a thought, have you considered taking the direct train from Civitavecchia to La Speza and then getting a regional train from La Speza to whichever village you will be staying in on the CT? The port is about an hour by train from Rome; the train from Civitavecchia to La Speza is about 3.5 hours, from Rome its about 4.5 hours. Doing this you could adjust the nights in CT and add a night to Venice.

We will end up in Rome on 9/27, only have carry ons and are trying to do this trip on the cheap....somewhat. It would be more convenient to skip Rome but this might be our only chance to see the Sistine Chapel and I already bought non refundable tickets.
It looks like we'll just bite the bullet and take public transport to the city.

It has always been a bit of a secret but the BIRG ticket Zone 5 for 12 Euros covers travel on the local commuter trains from Civitavecchia station to Rome (not the regional and inter city trains) and all day travel in Rome, plus all buses within Civitavecchia town.

It is not officially available at the railway station booking office (sources vary on that question) or ticket machines, but at the station newsagents and at several corner shops in Civitavecchia, including the tobacconists just down from the bus station where the cruise shuttle bus drops you.
