I would like to travel by bus or car from CT to Nice France in July, but can't find any information? I know the train is most common but I did that and it was very hot, crowded and, LOTS of tunnels. I saw very little of the coast line. Is it possible to rent a car from Italy to France? Or take a bus?

If you rent a car or take a bus, you will still have LOTS of tunnels. I know, I've driven it. Impressive engineering though.

You can pick up a car in La Spezia and drop it in France for a significant extra fee, or drop on the Italian side of the border, such as at San Remo. Car rental price breaks usually come when you rent for 3 or more days.
I don't expect there are any direct buses (but try www.eurolines.com) and probably no connecting buses. Several different bus companies operate in each country but don't usually compete head-to-head with trains.

In the other direction, we were in Ventimiglia once when there was a train strike. To get from there to Genoa by bus, we had to take seven different buses and it took ten hours!
