Travel from central Rome to cruise port

What is the best way to arrive at the cruise port from the central train station.
I read that the walk from the Civitavecchia train station to the actual port is
a mile?

You can easily get a taxi from the train station to the port if you need to.

At the Civitavecchia train station you catch a city bus to the port--2 euros. Then get on a port bus out to the ship. It is.walkable for the hearty if packing light.

Still think using the train is the best way to go. Three to four trains an hour with a cost of about 10 euro plus or minus depending on the train. Use to be a walk of about a quarter mile. Had not done it since the port entrance has been remodeled so I don't know exactly how far the walk is now. A mile seems far. There are city buses from the station. But it is an easy walk along the shore if you don't have excessive luggage to drag. Taxis are available but they might charge a lot for that mile - if it is that far. Once at the port entrance a shuttle bus will take you to your ship. We would walk but for cruises we have only three carry on size bags - 2 backpack style and one rolling. Good luck.

Whichever way you go, please be aware that transportation within the port is somewhat disorganized. They only provided for one bus to haul hundreds of people up to the front of the port--when we were coming into Civitavecchia.
And we missed the train and had to wait for an hour (on Saturday) to catch the next train.
We ended up getting to our hotel in Rome at 3:30 p.m.
Traveling locally sometimes takes longer than planned because everyone you run into operates on "Italian Time."

A couple of years ago three of us who met while waiting for a taxi took the taxi from the station right to our ship. Distance from dockyard entrance to the ship was roughly the same as from the station to the dockyard gate. Cost was about 30€ for the three of us plus luggage. When it is 32C, or if it is raining, walking and dragging luggage is not really an option especially as cruisers tend to have more luggage than the average Rick Steves participant (will add that I did fine on a 7 day cruise with just my trusty RS rollaboard). Just be aware that you may have a wait for a taxi.
