travel from Budapest, Hungary to Naples, Italy

Hello,

We will be traveling one way from Budapest, Hungary to Naples, Italy. We think the best way should be by air? Any advice on when to buy the tickets? Should we nail down the best price now, or wait because fares might get lower on flights within Europe? So far the best price has been $144 each plus $58 each for one checked baggage. Is this a good deal?

Thank you for any guidance

I like to get my plans nailed down and tickets bought once I know for sure what my itinerary is, and have flown within Europe 3 times in recent years and to me $202 is reasonable; I've paid from $100 to $220. I will pay more if I can go direct at a time that's reasonable (don't want to arrive anywhere at night) and I don't really want to deal with the extreme budget lines as their baggage limitations don't suit me. So, I'd buy those tickets.

You might want to do a "reputation check" for the discount airlines from which you can choose. Of course, it's hard to be sure what is accurate AND current on the internet! (Ironica typeface.) For example, I bought an Air Berlin ticket from Copenhagen to Dusseldorf because they had so many flights per day - I figured I would get there, even if I had to pay another airline for a new ticket. Two months before my flight, Air Berlin entered bankruptcy. Now, the flight did go, and I had travel insurance bought BEFORE the bankruptcy. But even so ... ....

Who knew that Ryanair would mess up their pilot scheduling so badly?

The airline in question is RyanAir. Does anyone have experience with them? Are they reliable?
Thanks,

Ryanair makes the route, and they are Europe's largest discount airline. the price is right, but you just need to be aware of their terms and conditions. He prepared to pay for any extras, memorialize an hour flight.
Go for it.

I believe RyanAir is the carrier that charges you a small fortune if you need to print your boarding pass at the airport. Doesn't it also require an extra step--lining up at a sometimes-hard-to-find-counter to show your passport? (Maybe that's not for flights within the Shengen Zone?) Even if I'm remembering correctly, that's not an argument not to take RyanAir if its schedule works for you and the cost is lower than your other options; it's just an argument for being very, very careful about following its procedures exactly.

What date are you flying? The fare you cite sounds pretty high by RyanAir standards. Perhaps it is not a non-stop. Could you fly on a different day, when a non-stop might be available? Also check WizzAir; it flies non-stop from Budapest to Naples also (not daily).

Thank you for all the input - it is very helpful! We are flying in April, and I just booked with them. But we will be wary to keep the extra costs down. WizzAir does not fly on our date, and they cost about twice as much as our flights.
Thank you again for your information - much appreciated!
