Suggestions on best way to travel from Bologna to Catania?
Considering-train (overnight) then ferry into Sicily
flying (expensive?)
Is there a train that allows for passengers to leave in specific locations for pics ect...?
Time is a consideration.
THANK YOU!

You can fly direct from Bologna to Catania on Meridina for about $300. Trip takes about 1hr40min. Or, if you are adventurous with the train, you can book a trip from Bologna to Catania. First, you take a train to Napoli Centrale at 19:30. At close to midnight, you change to the InterCityNotte (night train) to Sicily. Overall, about 13hrs. You arrive in Catania at 8:18. Discounted fares are as low as 73Euro if you book 90 days out and are willing to accept a non-refundable ticket. Don't worry about a ferry. The train goes across to Sicily on one. Neither of these trains will permit you to stop and get off for pictures. Of course, nothing stops you from jumping off the train at stops to take pictures of the train station. But, you better get back on before it departs.
