Can anyone tell us the easiest way to travel from Bellagio in Lake Como to Monterosso in Cinque Terra? By train?

Yes, take the ferry to Varenna, then get a train to Milano Centrale then change to an InterCity train to Monterosso. You can look at the schedule and buy tickets on-line for print at home at http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en
The station at Varenna is unmanned so you can't buy tickets there, but you can also buy them at travel agencies. See if there is one in Bellagio, there is one in Varenna.

Ferry from Bellagio to Varenna, then this is probably your best connection.
