Travel CT, Rome and Venice in 1 week?

Is it possible to travel to Cinque Terre, then to Venice and Rome in one week by train? I do not want to feel like I am on the train the entire time, but want to see all of these places. Any tips or advice would be helpful!

CT to Venice takes about 5.5hrs on the train. You will most likely change trains in both La Spezia Centrale and Florence but you could change trains in other locations depending on the run. Venice to Rome will take about 4.0hrs. You will stop in Bologna and Florence. You don't indicate how you will arrive in Italy. There are no airports in the CT so you are traveling from somewhere. This will add to your train travel time. If from Florence, add 3.5hrs. If from Rome FCO, add 5.5hrs.

Have you used trenitalia.com to figure out the time you would be on the train? The CT is a bit of a PITA to get to from either Rome or Venice.

It is possible but it's not practical. You will be on the train a lot and wasting a lot of your short week. I would cut out CT and save it for another trip. Donna

Fly in Pisa (PSA) might save you some time. From Pisa to CT, about one and half hour.

One week = maximum two places. Depends on time of year on CT. Summer is too busy, late fall to early spring are chancey weather-wise. I'd opt for Venice adn Rome and make the most of your time. Once high-speed train trip between them, no changes.

We are doing the exact trip first week of our vacation.... Will post how it works out.... We are flying into Roma, train to La Spenzia, staying in Monterosso, train to Venice.... train then to Munich. I think the rain ride will be part of the adventure.
