Travel by train from Civitavechia to Sorrento

We are getting off a cruise in Civitavechia and we would like to travel to Sorrento, our next stop, by train...Can anybody gives me details about it?...Do we have to take more than one train?
Thanks

Unfortunately it will be three trains -- Civitavecchia to Termini (Rome), Rome to Naples, Naples to Sorrento. The best way might be the train to Rome and bus to Sorrento. The bus is not as frequent but it eliminates the change in Naples and a bit of a walk to the last train. You check schedules at trenitalia.com and you need to spell Civitavecchia correctly - need that double "cc".

The Circumvesuviana commuter line from Naples to Sorrento is a private operation and doesn't appear on the Trenitalia site. Trains depart from the lower level of Napoli Centrale and service is frequent and very cheap.

The Circumvesuviana is like BART, but not as plush. That's right, I said "not as plush" as BART. http://www.alfonsomartone.itb.it/egsjfu.html In the Naples train station the CV stop is downstairs. Like BART, the CV trains are marked by their respective ends of the line. You want the Sorrento line. You don't need to transfer, just ride it to the end of the line, which is in the middle of downtown Sorrento. It takes about an hour to get there with plenty of stops along the way.
