Hello I am traveling from Florence to SG for a stay of two nights but I'm not sure how to get there. I see conflicting stories if I need to bus straight there or change to a different bus in another town past Seina? Please help I leave Milan in 1 day by train to head to Florence for 2 days. Thank you.
Rick's book says that you connect in Poggibonsi. If there are exceptions to that rule, they would not be many. You can look at www.fsbusitalia.it or just get schedules at the bus station, since they run about hourly (less on Sundays). Easy enough to walk from the train station to the bus station to check it out when you arrive in Florence.
Have you considered renting a car as you leave Florence? Most people staying in San Gimignano are actually staying in the countryside outside of that very small hilltown in an agriturismo. An automobile is far better for exploring this region.
San Gimignano is just west of Poggibonsi--which is south of Florence a half hour or so on a 4 lane highway.
