Working on logistics at the end of our Sicily tour. We will leave Catania 6am, arrive in Milan @ LIN airport 750am. Our next flight leaves MPX at 11:45am. Has anyone done this transfer? Does 3 1/2 hours give us time to get from LIN to MPX to catch our next fight?
No first hand experience but doesn’t sound doable at all
Is this all on 1 ticket?
Will you have checked bags?
The 2 airports are at least an hour apart if traffic cooperates
If the flight out of Milan is to US you need to be there 3 hours preflight -so 8:45.
If first flight is delayed you are screwed
I would look for a safer connection or get to Milan the night before
Short answer-- probably not.
Presumably this is 2 different tickets.
Will you have checked bags?
Where does the flight leaving MXP go?
If to a non-Schnegen country you should allow 3 hrs for check in ( bag drop?) passport control etc
My quick look revealed a taxi would take about an hour to get from LIN to MXP. Train 90+ minutes. This assumes you arrive on time.
I would judge the odds of success as about equal to a snowball in Satan's domicile.
If you go ahead with your ( high risk) plan, be sure you have a "Plan B" at the ready.
That is really risky in my book. It's one hour by taxi (if you use anything else like the bus, you are looking at almost 2 hours plus whatever time you have to wait for the next bus).
So assuming all planets aligns, you might board a taxi at Linate at 8:30am at the earliest.
You can make it to Malpensa, 1 hour and 120 euro later, at around 9:30am if it's a Sunday. If not a Sunday you will likely encounter traffic on the Tangenziale (Beltway), therefore it will take a bit longer.
You have a couple of hours for check in and security, which is already less than the recommended 3 hours for an intercontinental flight.
If your flight from Catania is late, or you have issues with the baggage claim, you really risk not making it.
Personally I would fly the day before and stay at Malpensa or Milan city center..
Thanks for all the candid feedback. Plans will be altered accordingly to arrive @ LIN 12:55 pm, spend the night and fly out the next day to the US. We will look for a hotel near MXP to be closer for our 11:45 am flight home.
Unless you have no interest in seeing any of Milan there is no need to stay near airport with a 11:45 flight
Stay near Milano Cadorna or Milano Centrale and take the Malpensa Express in the am
We had an 11:00 flight and had no trouble getting there on time ( from Cadorna station)
Hubby working in Milan for 3+ days before we head to Sicily, I will be there 1 day before we head south. Other posters say we need to be at MXP 3 hours before our flight. We are early risers though so getting up and moving if we did stay closer to the city possible. Will look into Hotel Garda and Berna as recommended above.
