Can anyone tell me if there is a boat to take between the two and what is the time element?

jacque, I've never taken that trip by boat, but suspect it might require at least two boats. Have a look at This Website for information on routes and times. Travel by train and then boat would probably be faster. I did a day trip from Monterosso to Portofino last September, and the travel times were fairly short. If you decide to try that method and want details on the route, post another note. Happy travels!
