Travel at night from Mestre to Venice

My husband & I are traveling from Vienna to Venice/Lido on a direct night train that arrives at Mestre Station at 2:52 AM on Monday. The next leg is a bus leaving Mestre at 4:48 AM & arriving at Santa Lucia Station at 5:03 AM. Is there a quicker way to get from Mestre to the Lido at this time of the morning?

You could take a taxi. it is only a 5-10 minute drive. I don't know if taxis would be out at that time in the morning, but they may have a call box at the train station.

I guess I wasn't too clear. We want to take that train because it is direct with no changes so we can, hopefully, reserve a sleeper and get some rest. I think our main question is how to get from Mestre Train Station to Piazzale Roma at that time of the morning. There is vaporetti service from Piazzale Roma to Lido every 30 minutes from 11:30 PM to 4:30 AM from the info I've found on the Actv web site.

Jennifer,

If you're looking for a good night's sleep, would you have time to change your tickets and take EN 237, the direct night train that leaves Wien at 20:40 and arrives at Venezia Santa Lucia at 08:34?

Actually, I didn't think that was a direct train. The schedule I saw on the Bahn website started in Wien at 20:32 on train OIC 755 on 5/24/09, changed trains in Bruck a.d. Mur at 22:27 to EN 464, then changed again in Schwarzach-St. Veit to EN 237 at 02:26 on 5/25/09, then arrives at Santa Lucia at 08:34. I didn't think we'd get much sleep changing trains. This is our first trip to Europe and first train journey, so the fewer times we have to change trains, the better our chances of not missing one!! We are 60 yrs. old & considering hiring a videographer to follow us b/c we're sure we can sell to some movie producer as a comedy or a new T.V. version of charades!! I will look to see if there is another direct/no changes on the schedule. Thanks so much!

Jennifer: You mentioned making a video of your trip for the comic relief it might impart, no one has suggested that before, I'm for it. The movie character you don't want to emulate is Chevy Chase in Nat'l Lampoon's European Vacation.

Kent, We just watched that movie, and I'm afraid we both thought it was pretty "tame" compared to what our trip will be like! It will definitely be an exciting adventure...one we have dreamed of for a long time. I'm sure our slow, southern drawl will be a great help, also! We live in a small town, so when we want excitement we drive to a larger town after dark. We never leave the car, and still get lots of laughs (at ourselves)!!! Want to go to Europe with us? :)
