I have personally used cross-pollinate.com for apartments in Rome and Venice. I highly recommend it. It is referenced in the Rome 2011 guidebook.

Rental in Rome gets very mixed reviews. The bad ones are really bad. Usually I don't pay attention to them if they are from posters who are new or only have a few posts to their credit but I have read reviews by people I trust who have been on forums for years and the situations they described was horrible. I would be very careful with this company. If you would like more specific info please PM me. donna
