Trattoria Gianni Franzi---your experience?

Hello--I am planning our June, 2010 trip which will include a 3-night stay in either Vernazza, Monterosso al Mare, or Levanto. I am looking for information that goes beyond what is shown in the guidebook and website photos, from people who have stayed there.

For Gianni Franzi, the website shows a lovely garden terrace right above the sea. Is that at the very top? Are the "new" rooms nearby? Are those ## 47, 48 and 49? I understand that these 3 rooms do not have sea views but access to the garden terrace, which looks very inviting. But they must have windows---what do the windows look upon?

We do not spend much time in our rooms, and do not mind stairs at all.

I would like to hear from people who have actually stayed there---what did you like or not like about Gianni Franzi?

I would also appreciate hearing about other places we should consider. We are not loooking for the lowest price, or for luxury either. We do want something clean and pleasant, with friendly and hospitable managment, and a terrace or balcony with ocean views. A quad would be ideal, or two double/twin rooms close together (this is what we would have to take at Gianni Franzi, I believe.)

Thanks for your help.

Hi Kent---thanks--I have checked Tripadvisor, but at least on some TA forums (like the one where I am a DE) the reviews are not reliable. Or at least, I disagree with their evaluations.

Since Gianni Franzi is a major recommendation in Rick's books (and where I believe his tour groups stay) I was hoping to hear from people who had stayed there but had not written a review on Tripadvisor.

Maybe I should have titled my quest Gianni Franzi room so it was clear I am asking about the rooms and not the restaurant.

Lola: You're way ahead of me!

:)

(that happened once before, didn't it?!)

You would think someone on this forum would give us a review of this Big Rick Pick, wouldn't you??

Here's 30 topic threads on this forum that contain the phrase Gianni Franzi

Gianni Franzi mentions on the Helpline

If you want to arrange the search results by time, look at the options on the left side of the search window, such as Past Year.

Excellent! That is just what I needed. I haven't figured out how to use the search function here (I know you've explained it, but the number of steps is daunting). I much appreciate the link.

I hereby nominate Kent as Search Function Guru.
