Trastevere Train station

We will be staying in Trastevere near the Ministry of Education and need to fly out of FCO on our last day. I saw online that there is a Trastevere train station that has trains that go to Fumicino, but it looks like it is pretty far south on Viale Trastevere. Will Bus 8 go that far, and is it in a safe neighborhood and a manned station? Has anyone ever traveled from there to the airport? Barring public transportation options, could we walk it - or is it too far or in an undesirable area?
Thanks once again for your help and advice! Gerri

"Bus 8" is a frequent and safe tram. I've never had any problems at Trastevere Station. The tram stop is just before or just after the station and across the road. The station is used mostly by local residents, not many tourists.

We just did this exact same thing this past May. It's very easy to do, if you read up a little in advance. (See below.) The train station in TV is far from the prettiest in Italy, but it's perfectly safe. You will indeed be among the few tourists, since it's more of a commuter train. The airport is the very last stop, so there's no way to miss it. The one thing that might not occur to you is that the ticket booth doesn't open until 6:30 or 7. If you need to be on the train before that, buy your tickets in advance and then be sure to validate before you get on. (By Bus 8, do you mean Tram 8? That runs all the time and is by far the best way to get down to the train station. Whether it's too far to walk depends entirely on where you're starting from. See Google maps for distances.) Roninrome.com has excellent info on how to do it: FR1 train to FCO

I bought my ticket in advance for train as was advised. Travelled alone . No problems at all.
