Trastevere restaurants

We ate at Osteria Ponte Sistine last night. Any other recommendations in area of piazza Santa Maria?

Carlo Menta!!!!!!! (with back to Santa Maria in Trastevere, walk down the road on the left). Honest food, family recipes, very inexpensive and delightful staff.

For a fun, relaxed evening, we really enjoyed Popi Popi pizzeria at Via delle Fratte di Trastevere, 45. Ask for the waiter's advice on the antipasto.

We couldn’t find Carlo Menta. Instead went to La Tavernetta tonight. Small but seemed to be frequented by locals especially families bringing their kids. Very good. The guys next to us were very vocal about want they wanted, picking out a cut of beef in a nearby cooler. Once delivered to their table sizzling with roasted potatoes and spinach, they finished it in a few minutes. If you can satisfy two very discriminating customers who appeared to just step out of the Sopranos, you have got to be good.

Try again for Carlo Menta. Sorry, I'm not always good at directions when I think (that's the problem) they are easy to follow. :) Walk away from the church (left side of the piazza). After several small eateries on the right and one fairly large souvenir shop, keep going. Carlo Menta will be on your left at the next not-too-big piazza. Lilli is the hostess, Salvatore has been my favorite waiter for the past 3 years. Hope this helps better! Carlo Menta has been for decades the political and social center of Trastevere. They published a book a couple of years ago about its place in the local life.

It has been awhile, but I can second Popi Popi. Good variety on the menu, but the stars are solid Roman dishes. It is not fancy, just a big casual restaurant, reasonably priced.

Tavernaccia da Bruno (a/k/a La Tavernaccia) at the southern end of Trastevere.

Go on a Sunday and get the lasagna from their wood-burning oven and suckling pig.

I'll add my vote for Popi Popi. We ate there twice in September and were not disappointed. We chose to eat inside where there seemed to be more locals. Service was a little slow the second evening. There was a large celebration of someone's 90th birthday. Fun to watch.

Trattoria Da Enzo is about 1/2 mile east of Piazza Santa Maria, al 29, Via dei Vascellari. It is a really plain-looking place (or at least it was in 2015). I stumbled on it and managed to snag a table early in the lunch period; reservations were absolutely required at dinner time in May 2015. I learned later that Da Enzo is visited on at least one food tour and is popular late in the evening with off-duty chefs. It's known for its Roman cuisine.

I see that there are no prices on the menu posted on the website. Prices were totally reasonable in 2015, but I have no idea what they are like now.

Thanks for all the replies. This is our last night in Rome and we ate at Osteria la Gensola. High quality seafood but also expensive. Unusual dishes like ravioli stuffed with seafood and an antipasto of swordfish rolls and eggplant caponata. We finally found Carlo Menta and loved it. Will be difficult to leave Trastevere.
