Trastevere hotel - last night @ Rome

Seeking for hotel recommendation for our last night at Trastevere. Will be arriving late to Rome so prefer a place with restaurants near by and somewhere convenient way out to the FCO international, We are flying next morning 11am. TIA for your input.

It might be better to say closer to Roma Termini station, as that will make your trip to the airport in the morning fairly easy, using the Leonardo Express. There are lots of restaurants in that area. How late will you be arriving in Rome?

Having been there recently, and considering your late arrival, I'm not sure Trastevere is the best location for you, as it's a bit out of the way. How are you arriving into Rome? If by train, I agree that somewhere closer to Termini might be a better choice - assuming you're flying back to the States, you should be at FCO by 8:00.

We stayed in Le Fate bed-and-breakfast. fabrizio the host is awesome

It was a few years ago, but the Leonardo express to the airport had to stop there near the bed-and-breakfast. Fabrizio speaks perfect English and will help you make your decision.

I see no reason why the Trastevere would not work. There is a wide array of restaurants and a pretty vibrant nightlife. I think it would be much more pleasant than the Termini area, allowing you a nice walk along the river, and even Piazza Navona is not too far for a stroll.

It is not someplace real fancy or special, but we have stayed at Hotel Trastevere on three trips, twice it was for a week. It is on Via Luciano Manara, a great location a couple blocks to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere and the main area, so it is away from the noise.

To get to the airport, all you need to do is head to Viale de Trastevere, the main street, and catch the tram to Trastevere Station, at the station, you take the FL1 for 8 euros. With an 11 AM departure, maybe leave the hotel about 6 AM, you could also take a fixed rate cab for 45 euro, the Hotel also offers a transfer. There is no need to get back to Termini.

If you wind up staying closer to the train station, I HIGHLY recommend MECENATE PALACE HOTEL:

We have stayed here twice. It’s walking distance to the train station and they have a wonderful rooftop restaurant. We absolutely love it there…..

Presumably you will be taking a taxi to the airport? If so, no real need to stay near Termini.

If you plan to take the Leonardo Express to FCO, then being in walking distance of Termini makes sense.

To have to take a taxi to Termini to get the train makes no sense from a time or cost saving basis.

My $0.02

Hello everyone, These are great input and debates. There are two of us. It seems stay at Trastevere and 45-50 euro taxi ride to FCO make sense since not much of saving by taking the train FCO. Which hotel in Trastevere you had good experience? Which restaurant you ate in that neighbor you liked the most? Thanks gain.

We stayed at donna camilla savelli hotel. Ir was a little above my budget but a worthy splurge. One block down the lively area starts. Always felt safe in the neighborhood. The hotel called a taxi to take us to FCO and we paid the flat rate €50

Its hard to pick just one restaurant to recommend here! We did enjoy Caramella for a funky hip spot just off Piazza Trilussa

There are dozens of restaurants it seems in the general area, taking a wander and picking one that looks good is one way to do it, especially if you can find a small place off the beaten path.

Some general thoughts, and I have not been back in about two years (things change):

Very popular is Tonnarello, Roman food, decent prices, lots of people love them, others love to hate them, maybe because they are so popular. There is also Osteria Nannarella, which I believe is run by the same people. I really can not vouch for either, but those names will come up again and again in your searches.

A very decent option, away from the main restaurant area is Da Enzo al 29. Again a place focusing on Roman dishes, made somewhat famous by one of the TV traveling chefs, but they kept to their own tune, ignoring the crowds and serve very solid renditions of the classic Roman pastas (Cacio e Pepe, Carbonara, Amatriciana, and Pasta al Gricia) plus artichokes and other dishes.

For a bit upscale, we always liked Ristorante la Scala in Trastevere. They feature lots of local products, and have seasonal menus, with a good seafood listing.

Ciao..donna Camilla savelli is really lovely..and just out the door to the right over the cobblestones the restaurants are plentiful. The hotel can also assist. They have a lovely garden in which you can enjoy your breakfast or lunch..a wonderful breakfast..the rooms are spacious..the hospitality top notch..and there is a cathedral right in the hotel. This is all IMHO..but we thoroughly enjoyed...you will really feel that you are in the moment in Italy!
