Trapani, Sicily.. where to find pasta sauce

I was in Trapani and Erice a few weeks ago. I loved two pasta I actually had in an Erice restaurant. One was with sardines. the other was with 'pesto alla Trapanese" sauce. I am having trouble finding this sauce in a jar. There is one place in Wisconsin you can order it on the internet. That's all I can find. Even in the Italian neighborhood of San Francisco I could not find it. Any ideas?

By the way, if you are not traveling by car in Sicily, I would stay in Trapani and just take the bus/cable car up to Erice on a day trip instead of staying in Erice.

lidiasitaly.com has a recipe for it, making your own might be the best (and freshest) option.

As a person who learned to cook at the elbow of a Sicilian Grandmother, I have never, ever found any sauce in any jar of any brand, whether imported from Italy or U.S. made to be worth eating! Just sayin. I am however, unfamiliar with the sauces you mention in this post. I'd "google" pesto alla Trapanese and see is a recipe comes up. I'll check around and see if I can find someone who knows how to make the sauce with Sardines. I'll email a friend in Sicily and ask. Post it here for you. It may take a day or two.

Pasta con le Sarde and Pesto alla Trapanese are good examples of the local cuisines that you travel to experience, because they're not widely available in the USA.
