Hi, My family, 8 people total will be taking a cruise in early November. We have a 6 hour port stop in Trapani. The cruise offers a bus tour to Erice but this would not be our first choice. I have looked at the Funivia Cableway, but was wondering if we would have enough time and the dependability of the Cableway in early November. Also with such a short stay would you recommend Erice or just explore Trapani? Any advice would be appreciated :)
Meg
Hi Meg-We stayed one night in Erice last December. Perched high above Trapani and the sea, and with swirling mists the next morning, it was a magical place. Driving the extremely narrow "streets" was an exciting & memorable challenge. It's also home to the deservedly-famous Grammatico Pasticceria - get Sicily's best baked treats there. Driving down and into Trapani on our way further down the coast, it seemed like an OK town but nothing uniquely special. Have a great trip!
Meg, I haven't been to Trapani but I found this website www.trapaniwelcome.it which may be helpful. At any rate the English is charmingly quaint. For example: "Various are the typical products of the land ... " and "...the cookery, with its enchanting taste, is superlative."
