Does anyone know the easiest way to get to the Lido (where our hotel is located) from the Venice airport? We will be arriving in late Sept.
Thanks.
The easiest way is also the most expensive way. You can take a water taxi from the airport to Lido and, depending on where your hotel is located, maybe even directly to the hotel door. The cost will be $100 euros or more and the taxis can take up to 8 passengers and luggage. You can google "venice water taxi" and get a plethora of options. Here is one link that you can use to get a good idea of how much the trip will cost. http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/biglietto_1.php You do not have to buy in advance. There is a counter inside the airport where you can secure the transportation once you arrive. There are almost always water taxis standing by.
Thank you. Maybe I should have asked for a reasonably priced way to get from the airport to the hotel. 100 euros sounds like a lot. I do appreciate your thoughts.
The cheapest and slowest way is to take the land bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma from where you can join the number 1 all stops vaporetto to its final stop some significant time later at Lido. You will need to find from your hotel how to get from the Number 1 stop at Lido to the hotel. More expensive, somewhat but not dramatically faster, is the Alilaguna. The Blue and Red lines both go to the airport via Murano, coming from different parts of the main islands. The only direct transport would be as in the first reply.
Carroll, the Alilaguna Linea Blu and the Linea Rossa boats both depart the boat dock at the airport and travel to Lido. 15Euro each. Here's a picture of the route map. www.alilaguna.it http://gyazo.com/e0a0f458d3849bacfda735663195ff2a
Many thanks to all of you. I think the 15 euros per person is doable and I'm sure we'll enjoy the ride. Your help and suggestions have been terrific. So nice to have the aid of fellow travelers. I'm sure I'll be writing again.
