My husband and I will be arriving into Rome after a long trip from the US in early Sept. and would like to get suggestions on how we should get from the Fiumicino airport to Hotel Smeraldo, keeping in mind we'll be a bit tired I'm sure. Bus? Taxi? (approx. how much for both options). Thank you.
We just did that journey last May. After a one+ hour trip to the airport, then waiting for the plane, then starting our 21 hour air trip to Rome we chose the taxi option (48 Euros) to get to the Smeraldo. There are cheaper ways to do it, but you are on vacation.....enjoy. The staff at the hotel are friendly and helpful, you will like it there. Don
We are making the same trip in late September, also staying at Hotel Smeraldo. We decided on a taxi as well since we thought the Leonardo Express, although cheaper, took us way past the hotel and we'd need a taxi from Termini anyway. This is our first trip to Rome so we aren't confident knowing how to travel around and get to and from Fiumicino. We've done the same at other European cities on initial visits and on return trips we knew how to best get around cheaply by metro, bus, and tube. Good to hear the hotel staff is helpful.
Taxi is most convenient and expensive at 48E. L Express is little cheaper at 28E (14/each) and bus at 8E/each is the cheapest. With the bus or train you need to get from Termini to the hotel probably best by taxi.
The usual buses from Termini to Largo Argentina then a 3 or 4 minute walk down the alley. Easy. Its a bit far to walk. Actually, for me, its way too far. Nice staff, small shower - but ok, nice view, very quiet on the back.
