We are visiting Rome for the first time in May. We do not want to stay near the airport so getting to and from the airport is a concern. Most of the flights we are looking at (from Paris/or from Florence) arrive late (10pm) or leave incredibly early (6:25a) to return to Paris. What is the best mode of transportation from the Pantheon district or metropolitan area to the airport at late/early hours. I have read plenty of these forums that mention Uber Black.. If we can't take an Uber, is there accessible public transportation to the airport at such early/late hours?
You can pre-arrange with https://www.romecabs.com/ or simply take a cab from the airport ( fixed rate) to the Pantheon area.
Either probably cheaper than uber black
Once you know when you are arriving and leaving for certain folks can give you all your options. Rome is one of the world's great tourist destinations so there is no problem getting to and from the airport 24/7.
Use link on above post.
Taxi is fixed rate 48€- the taxi line is right outside and well controlled. Just get in line and go.
Do not go with anyone who approaches you offering a "cab"- they are not legit.
Seems to me that would be your safest/quickest way to get into Rome center.
As for return to FCO- have your hotel or host call a cab. Same fixed rate.
There are several discussions on this forum- do a couple searches
Thank you everyone for your responses. They were extremely helpful
A problem one might encounter having the hotel arrange the transportation is this: You may wind up with a regular taxi, a car service, or the desk clerk's brother-in-law. Happen to us once but had no problems since there were four of us and only one brother-in-law. We've used Rome Cabs ever since. Check the link in joe32F's post.
Why would you take a plane from Florence to Rome? There are fast train from Florence to Rome and it just take 2 hours. Taking a plane between Florence and Rome is a total nonsense!!
Why take Uber and not a normal Italian taxi. I would find myself more secure with a taxi than Uber and surely less expensive. Uber May be interesting only if you need a special big car for more than 4 persons.
What airport are you arriving in Rome?
Ciampino or Fiumiccino?
francoise, we are either flying from Paris to Florence (then taking train to Rome) or flying from Paris to Rome (taking train to Florence).
You all have convinced me to take the official cabs/taxi's. Thank you for your help!
