Transportation to cruise port

Hi
Changed hotel to stay closer to landmarks we want to see. The hotel will pick us up for 50 euros which is very convenient .stating at hotel for 2 nights .
I asked and it would be 140 euros to take us from the hotel to the port .

We will have 1 pc of luggage each . Is that the best way for my husband and I to get to the port ?
We are staying .1 km from the Spanish Steps

Which port? Which city?
"The hotel will pick us up for 50 euros . . . I asked and it would be 140 euros to take us from the hotel to the port ."
€50 is obviously not from the port (that is €140), but from where?

I guess you are talking about Rome to Civitavecchia. Is paying 140 EUR to get driven to Civitavecchia the "best" way? I guess if you have 140 EUR to spare. Cheap old me would take the Metro to Termini station, then a regional train to Civitavecchia, then the public bus from the train station to the cruise port for about 16 EUR for 2 people all told. But then that is just my "best" way.

The port is over a one-hour car ride, so the price is fair. Does your second sentence refer to airport-hotel upon arrival?
Because the train station is not very near the actual port in Civitavecchia, you'd have mass transit or a taxi at both ends of the train trip, or substantial walks with your luggage. "Best" may involve comfort and physical ability, as well as "Cheapest", which is an entirely different concept.

One detail is whether the hotel car service is permitted to go onto the pier (unlikely), or whether it will be dropping you at the port's proprietary shuttle bus center, for a short ride to the boat itself. This can add 1/2 hour, as you wait for the shuttle bus to fill.

It looks to me like you are taking a cab from FCO to your hotel and a cab to Civitavecchia. The prices quoted are not out of line. Sam's post above would be the way we would and have done it in the past. The last time we walked to Termini out of personal preference and the location of our hotel.

I would use the metro and the trains unless you have someone with mobility issues.

Thanks everyone . Yes I did mean FCO-hotel is 50 Euros.
No mobility issues. The hotel transportation ( cab ) is not allowed to go on the pier so will have to shuttle /walk if we take the cab from hotel .

Take the spagna metro to roma termini then the regional train to Civitavecchia... or take a cab to roma termini either way works and will cost very little.
