How long does it take to get to the Archeological Museum in Naples from the train station and how long to get from the museum to the airport? Trying to plan a trip without staying in Naples. Thanks!
By metro or by taxi? The station is Napoli Centrale?
Probably by taxi and I believe that is the train station.
You can walk it in half an hour, mostly along very interesting streets.
Not the airport part!
Try to stay in Naples at least one night.
My husband and I seriously dislike Naples and only want to be there long enough to spend a few hours at the museum in our way to Palermo. Unfortunately, the flights between the two are limited, so trying to squeeze this in,
From Napoli Centrale station, the Museum is only 1 metro stop away, but still probably 15-20 minutes once you consider ticket buying time + waiting time + walsk at either end. You also need to factor in some time for luggage storage at Napoli Centrale (I would be surprised if such facilities existed at the Museum).
Then, you make your way back to the station, retrieve luggage, and the Alibus leaves every 10 minutes or so and takes about 15 minutes to the airport (or you can take a taxi, 15 minutes).
So, I'll let you do the math, but that's maybe 1.5 hours total, or a bit less?
By the way, if you really dislike Naples, adjust your expectations of Palermo accordingly.
Thanks so much. The more I’ve read, the more I wonder about spending much time in Palermo. We were in Naples only briefly and found it to be dirty and unsafe…especially compared to Rome, which we love.
I totally endorse your view of Naples. As to your question, a taxi won’t take very long for either journey. Unlike many cities, the Naples aiport isn’t super far out of town.
I agree that auto traffic is undisciplined in Naples, endangering pedestrians. But as for personal crime safety in the daytime, Naples is safer than most American cities. Even conspicuously pulling our suitcases 1.5 miles (by choice, on a leisurely hotel departure toward Sorrento), we experienced no problems. "Feeling unsafe" because of unfamiliarity with urban life is not the same as "being unsafe." It's perfectly true that Naples is a gritty city in a province that has been starved for funds, by the national government.
If taking a taxi in Naples, it's wise to download and print out the Flat Rate Taxi Fare schedule, since drivers have been known to try to upcharge or charge for luggage that is included in the flat rate. Happens in the U.S., too.
