Hi--well, huh. We will be staying in Florence, but on March 14th, taking the train to Cortona for 2 days. Now I see an Italian transportation strike is scheduled for March 13th, listed as "4 hours, so far". Should we change our plans and just stay in Florence and do day trips? Don't want to get stuck in Cortona. . .as we were to spend the 16th back in Florence to fly out on the 17th. Thanks! Cheryl
Which web site do you use to keep an eye on the strikes?
Thanks
I just googled something like "Italy + trains + strikes + March 2010" and got this: http://www.easytravelreport.com/.
Usually my local Sunday paper lists things like this, but not this week!
Ok: this is what I found, and I see that now it has changed to Friday the 12th.
"Italy
General Strike, Italian transportation strike, Friday, 12, March, 2010. Workers striking will be transport workers, pilots, flight attendants, ground staff for all airlines and airports from 10am-2pm. From 2-6pm bus, train travel, metro's and tram. Ships and ferries will be delayed. Car rental will be effected. Trucks will strike all day. You will be delayed in some shape or form. Expect demonstrations in the street. Doctors will strike also."
I guess we'd better not get sick on Friday, either :)

Hi Cheryl,
We're going to be in Italy then too. Excited, but noticed there's a strike at Marco Polo the day that we leave (3/19) and of course, that's where we're leaving from!
As a continuation of this discussion--what does this mean for people like us? I can't find any specific information other than it's planned, and no time frame.
Should we expect to stay another day, miss our connection, etc?
Hi Elizabeth,
I don't know what it means for us either, but my guess is that we'll be sure to get another Italian adventure!
Cheryl
Thanks for posting the link to the web site that you are using.
Have a great trip,
Kim
