transportation in venice for family

Just curious if it is better to use vaporetto or water taxi if we have a group of 4? This would be from train station to hotel (near Accademia bridge) and from hotel to airport (our flight is at 11:30 AM).

Hi Sandy,
We are a family of four and will be using the vaporetto for transportation rather than a water taxi. It is my understanding that the water taxi is expensive and we were able to buy a 72 hour vaporetto pass for 24,75 Euro per person. (99 Euro total) I was able to purchase it ahead of time on www.veniceconnected.com (a person on this site helped me with it a few weeks ago) We haven't traveled yet, but the web site was easy to use and I think it will be a good deal for us.

Cheers

Hi Sandy. If each person will be buying a vaporetto pass for exploration during your stay, you can easily use it (first remember to validate in in the yellow box)to hop on and take the appropriate line with your luggage to get to your hotel. (I have done this from the train station twice). I do not know the cost of a water taxi to know if it's more cost effective for you.

To return to the airport, you can take the Alilaguna Boat to the airport. You will need to get to the airport at least 2 hours earlier. The trip takes 90 minutes (except for the express line). This is a separate transporation company, so you cannot use a vapporetto pass for it (I believe I paid 12Euros for my one way trip from Dorsoduro back to the airport in 2007).

You can also get to the bus station and take a bus to the airport - I have not done this so cannot explain.

Have a wonderful time.
