Transportation in/around Lake Como

Hello-
I may be going to a wedding in September in Lake Como, and I have a couple questions. One of the hotels is located in Cremia and I would need a taxi to get to the wedding (7 minutes away). Are taxi's readily available? And are they available at night assuming the wedding won't be over until late? How hard are they to get? If we do stay in Cremia, is there a ferry dock there for sight seeing the day or two after the wedding, or would we have to take a taxi to a ferry location? Trying to figure out the best way to go about our trip if we don't end up renting a car.

Our other option is to stay in Menaggio, but we'd still have the taxi issue (though I know that for sightseeing afterwards, there is a ferry dock there)

If we do rent one at the airport, does it have to be returned to the airport? We were hoping to go to Switzerland afterwards, and didn't want to drive there.

Thanks!

I cannot answer your questions about taxis in the area. But I will say with respect to your rental car question that a car rented one place can generally be returned elsewhere within Italy, without a drop fee. At least that has been our experience.

So you should be able to rent a car at the airport (Malpensa?), use it for Lake Como and the wedding, and then return it someplace convenient for your onward travel to Switzerland by train. So you need to determine the most appropriate drop point for your route for travel into Switzerland. Most go through Milan, unless you are taking the Bernina Express route.

I would look into hiring a driver, or scheduling a taxi, for the wedding, and I would stay in Menaggio or Varenna or Bellagio (with ferries between all).
