I have some family members who are traveling to Venice for the first time and are nervous about it. They do not want to take public transportation. They have some mobility issues so they need someone to meet them with a sign at the airport, drive them to the dock for a private water taxi to transport them to the Hotel Flora. Which company is the most economical and reliable to do this and can get them closest to the Hotel? Recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The water taxi is several hundred yards from the arrival terminal at the airport, but there is a moving sidewalk for part of the way now.
Can they not negotiate that?
I have never heard of anybody being met at Venice by a land taxi to take them that short distance to the water taxi.
I suppose that they could take a land taxi all the way to Venice Piazzale Roma and you could get a water taxi there. The bus which goes from immediately outside the terminal ( a little closer than the taxi rank if I remember correctly, and if you are met you will have to get to the car which may be some distance away in the car park ) goes to exactly the same place at Piazzale Roma which is as far as wheeled vehicles can go into Venice - it is boats from there.
How will you manage with all the bridges? - all steps, no ramps except 2 bridges at S Zaccharia.
How to get to the hotel is on the hotel website, with a map, at https://www.hotelflora.it/contact-us/ scroll down to the bottom of the page.
From the Santa Maria del Giglio vaporetto stop it is just one bridge up and over to the next island for the hotel, that would be easiest. There is the Trinita water taxi pier but because the hotel is inland and not near any canal large or small it is overland to reach it from there, and a bit of a maze. The option they suggest is the Vallaresso vapretto stop but my experience is that would be very difficult for you. There are big crowds, the bridges are very high even if the ramps are out on one of them, and it is further.
How much mobility problem do you have?
I think you should check https://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/arriving_in_venice.htm which gives a nice overview of the options.
Perhaps a hotel located on a canal would be better for them. Going up and over Venice’s bridges, comprised of stairs, is difficult with luggage. They chose a hotel in the interior. Nice place, we stayed there one time. But you have walk farther to hotel than airport to water taxi.
And like the others said, from the airport terminal to a private water taxi is a very short walk. Are they in wheelchairs?
