Other than the expensive water taxi, does anyone know another way to get from the airport to the large cruise ship dock in Venice?

There's a shuttle from the Piazzale Roma - the main bus station in Venice.

Jo Ellen, we arrived in Venice A/P and there is a bus outside the terminal that takes you to the Main water taxi station and the cruise terminal is sort of behind there. We stayed in Venice seveal days and then took the inexpensive boat into the city. Some cruise ships provide service day of cruise from this water terminal directly to the ship. If not its a short taxi ride which is what we did. Hope this helps.

The easiest, and relatively cost efficient way that I know of (by water) is to take the Alilaguna Linea Oro(Gold Line) directly from the airport to the San Marco (Giardinetti) stop, and then from the San Marco (Giardinetti) stop take the Alilaguna Linea M to the cruise ship docks. Alilaguna is a private company that is sort of a cross between a vaporetto and a water taxi. http://www.alilaguna.it/
