Hi! I will be arriving this week in Venice from NY. I am staying at Rick's recommended place Pensione Gueratto. I have been reading a lot about transportaiton from the airport. Is the bus a good idea over the boat? I am a solo traveler, can I join another group on the water taxi and split the price with them? Where does the bus take me and how would I get from it to the hotel?
Last year I took the bus from venice bus station to airport. It is easy and cheap, clean and not sketchy.
U might just ck with your pensionne for info. On your other ?
The 5 bus is cheap but only gets you to the bus terminal Piazzaele Roma.

Also note that Bus 5 is as public bus and doesn't have a baggage compartment. You may have to carry your bag on your lap.
I always take the Aliliguna from the airport into Venice. I'm very tired after the flight and don't have to make a change from the bus to vaporetto. The orange line goes down the Grand Canal and stops at Rialto. It looks as though your pensione is relatively close.
The downside to the Aliliguna is a walk from the airport to the dock, but the way is clearly marked and walking a bit after the long flight feels good to me. And the Aliliguna is a slow boat. But you enter Venice from the water and I think that's fitting.
I checked out the shared taxi when I traveled solo last fall and I'm pretty certain solo travelers have to pay double - so it's pretty pricey.
Any way you choose, you will be in Venice!!!
Since you will be there is high season and your pensione is in a popular area - make an effort to get up early before the hoards arrive, and spend time during the busy times of the day in the less crowded areas.
Sent you a PM with specific directions
Thanks to everyone for your help! Ciao!
