Transportation From VCE to Hotel in Venice

My flight lands at VCE 19:25. Trying to figure out transportation from airport to hotel and also how long it takes to get bags and get thru customs. Suggestions.

Ask your hotel about the choices of how to get there from the airport.

Where does the flight originate? What formalities you need to do in Venice will be dictated by where the plane is coming from

Where you are coming from and where your hotel is are prime factors. Tell us your hotel name. Customs is just walking out the "Nothing to declare" door. You have already passed through Schengen immigration at Lisbon airport. Also, do you plan on getting a vaporetto pass for your time in Venice?

Check the Alilaguna water bus schedule and stops, which picks up at the airport. This water bus is not a part of the vaporetto system- vaporettos do not go to the airport.

Another option are the private water taxis , however they cost at least 100 Euros.

No one can predict luggage and passport control. We were there just last month, but came in a couple of hours later; the airport was empty, so we got through quickly [with carry-on only.]

Safe travels!

But the No 5 bus goes to Piazzale Roma where you can get a vaporetto to the vicinity of your hotel. The bus is a 6 EUR adder if you do buy a vaporetto pass. Alilaguna is my least favorite way, often a lot of stops on the way to your stop, boats are low in the water and you really can't see out the windows.

The hotel we stayed in last September sent us a map of how to get to the hotel from VCE. It told us what waterbus (Alilaguna) and what stop to get off at. It also had a walking map that was very helpful. We were fortunate to have a 5 min. walk to our hotel. It was a pleasant ride and took less than an hour to our stop.

Well, I can definitely tell you that there’s no better experience than being whisked from the airport across the lagoon and to your hotel via water taxi!

Ya, but I can think of a dozen better ways to spend a hundred euro.

Some of this has been covered so please excuse any redundancy.

In a nut shell, there are 3 ways to get from the airport to your hotel. A private water taxi is the most expensive by far. I understand there is now a shared water taxi system available but we haven't used it so can't comment. Perhaps other can offer insight.

The next least expensive way is the Alilaguna boat. It takes longer, you do have to "check" you baggage so you don't have control of it the entire time, and you probably will not be able to get a "non stop" line to the area of your hotel.

The third way is a combination bus and vaporetto (vap.). It takes a bit longer, but that is what we do because we travel with just a carry on each. There are two bus lines that serve the airport. One is ATVO and is NOT affiliated with the vap. system. The other is ACTV and IS affiliated with the vap. system. At the airport you can get a vap. pass for various periodss. You can add a one way or two way bus fare to the vap. pass. There is a good site maintained by the ACTV system that has current prices and such. Can't remember the url so just google it.

If you decide to do option # 3, take the # 5 ACTC bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Be sure and validate the vap. pass on the bus. Do not wait until you get on the vap. Also, validate the pass each time you use the vap. Then take to the vap. to the stop closest to your hotel. We've done option # 3 many times. Easy Peasy and cheap to boot.

Knowing the name and location of the hotel will probably enable us to give you specific directions about the vap. line and stops. It may even be possible to use google maps street view to walk the route to the hotel to help avoid getting lost.

There is a site called veniceforvisitors.com that has a lot of good info. that you might want to check out.

We were in Venice last October and did TC's Option #3 and it was so easy! We got through customs and got our bags fairly quickly (less than a half hour). We bought the 72 hour vaporetta pass with one way airport transfer. We took the ACTV bus to the end of the line, hopped on the vaporetto and took that to our hotel. It was so easy and such a beautiful way to see Venice for the first time! Just check with your hotel as to which stop is closest and make sure to validate the ticket or pass on every trip. Hope you have a great time!
