Our Mediterranean cruise is ending in Trieste and we planned on staying in Venice for two days before flying home. Looking for recommendation on the best way to travel from the cruise port to Venice. Does anyone have any recommendations? Thank you all in advance.
We plan to use the Flix bus or take the train when we have the same situation early June.
Train from Trieste Centrale to Venezia S. Lucia, takes a bit over two hours. I booked mine on the Trenitalia app from my phone. (I'll be making the trip in late May). You could also take Flixbus which leaves from the same station but when I booked mine the prices were similar and I believe the train ride was shorter. Not 100% sure where the cruise port is but google told me its a 16 min walk from where I think it is. The city is walkable (I've done it) but you could probably find a cab if you don't want to walk with your luggage. Hope this helps!
Thank you. I checked out the train schedule and I didn’t see any during the day. There is only one at 7:50 pm and that seems to be very late. I am probably doing something wrong.
Yes, you might be doing something wrong. There are frequent direct trains from Trieste to Venice. Where are you looking?
hey hey elendom
agree with badger, doing something wrong.
trenitalia.com put in where to where "trieste to venezia s. lucia", outward journey date scroll down to bottom and click the time you want. # of passengers, click apply. gives you train times within the departures. remember that check in time to hotels/rooms are 2 to 4pm, check out is 10 to 11am. leave trieste later morning, not rushing off ship like everyone else and having to wait for your check in with bags, they have have baggage storage ask, they may have a room ready for you then.
where is your hotel at? what time does your flight leave venice, hopefully not at some ungodly hour like "ugly dark thirty 6am" getting to airport 4am ish. been there done that, we were not happy campers!!! give us more info and will help you out, what are your dates to arrive venice and to leave?
aloha
Regional trains after June 8 may not be on the schedule yet, and most of the trains are regional trains. Look at the same day of the week now and you will see the trains. You can be confident that the schedule will not change much, if at all.
What does the cruise line offer?
Our trip is not until late July to August. I think someone posted that the train schedule may not be available that far in advance because I looked for the current week and they definitely have more on the schedule. I think I will wait until June to check again. We are staying at Hotel Bella Venezia for two nights before flying home. Our flight is not until 2:00 pm. Refused to fly at the crack of dawn to come home. :-)
Taxi to the station will probably best with luggage.
I assume that is a water taxi.
I think OP means taxi from cruise port to Trieste station
OP
Schedule will be updated by first week or so of June
If you do mean taxi to station in reference to your Venetian hotel, that would have to be a water taxi as there are no roads in Venice - just canals
Looks like your hotel is on a canal and possibly has a water door or dock
Check with them for best way to arrive/ depart- you will often find that info on their website.

The cruise line only offers transfer to hotel
In Venice if you book the hotel through them and it’s a lot more expensive than booking the hotel yourself because they charge you per passenger.
The cruise line only offers transfer to the airport if you are flying home the same day your cruise ends and they ask for flight information.
I decided to take a taxi from the cruise port to the train station and water taxi once we arrived in Venice to the hotel because that’s the only way.

what do you mean by "water taxi"
Where is your hotel?
Hotels in Venice usually have Arrival info on their website.
From the train station you might also take a vaporetto- (maybe that is what you meant)
Water Taxi and Vaporetto are different things
I find the Rome2Rio website very helpful for options.
Regional trains are are now showing on the schedule at https://www.trenitalia.com/en.html
You could also try the Shuttle Service called GoOpti.
We used them to get from the Airport in Venice to our hotel in Trieste.
UPDATE:
From the cruise port in Trieste, we decided to walk off the cruise ship with our luggage so we can maximize our time in Venice. We decided to take the train which I must say is clean and comfortable. Although the train station (Trieste Centrale) is walkable from the cruise terminal, we took a taxi because of all the luggage. It’s €15 Euros with the meter. Purchased the tickets at the train station from Centrale to Venezia St. Lucia which is the last stop. Fare is €16 per person. Whether taking the water taxi or the Alilaguna to Venice, it’s only steps away. The fare to Alilaguna is €9.50 per person. I hope this helps others.
