We will be doing Rick's Southern Italy tour in May, and would like to take a side trip from Sorrento to Oliveto Citra. While in this area a couple of years ago we had planned this side trip as well. But were disappointed when the driver we had arranged did not show up. Since we will again be close, we are again trying to make it to the family ancestral home about 1 1/2 hour away. This time we thought we would rent a car and make the trip on our own. But we have run into some trouble in that we will be in Sorrento on a Sunday and the car rental is closed. Any suggestions?
Pat,
This may sound goofy, but you could pick up a car at Napoli Centrale (garibaldi station)
Head out to the S162 then head toward Nola on the A30 you would continue on this till the Salerno, Bari
ramp and take the A3-E45 to SS691 into Oliveto Citra. This will be about 1H30m. Drive back to Sorrento
and drop the car the next morning back in Naples.
This is the only place to rent on Sunday other than the airport
The drive from the airport is much less stressful and adds only about 10 minutes.
To do this, take the Curreri Viaggi Bus from Sorrento to the airport. 10E 1H29m
take the A56 to the A1/E45 exit toward Roma/Bari. Then the A16 toward Salerno Head toward Nola
on the A30 then the A3 toward Salerno. Exit on the SS691n toward Oliveto Citra.
Better yet, get a GPS with the car. ALL of these roads are well marked. They do have tolls.
By renting at the airport, you can then return the car in Sorrento @ Corso Italia #210 P
I used
http://www.kemwel.com/car.cfm for car rental
Thanks so much for the information Gerri. This side trip is something that we would really like to be able to work out, and appreciate you taking the time to offer help.
