Transportation from Siena to Assisi?

Assisi is about a 2 hour drive from Siena- IMO that is too far as a day trip.
There are no direct trains- you would change at least once in Florence- making the trip probably 4+ hours by train each way.

When would this be? I believe there is track work going on now along the Assisi route which would make the trip even more difficult.

You could rent a car or hire a driver.
A driver will cost close to 600 euros each way.

There might be a Flixbus but not sure how long that trip would be as I don't think its a direct route.

Maybe consider an overnight in Assisi to make it worth your time?

A one day car rental would probably be the most affordable- cost and time wise.
It is not a difficult drive.
There are car rental agencies in Siena near the train station.

All drivers will need an IDP and we can help you with avoiding ZTLs, parking info etc.
I would still advise making this an overnight trip. Just too many hours in transit on one day for me.

Yeah, there are no direct connections beyond driving. If you want to visit Assisi I would suggest staying for at least a night, or better two so you a full day there, to make the trip worth the travel time.

I agree that it is probably outside the day trip perimeter unless you are willing to drive or pay for a driver. And that would be a long, and possibly expensive, trip.

With a car it’s doable. I’ve done it from Florence a few times and it takes even a bit longer from Florence than Siena (a couple of hours drive from Florence, a little less from Siena).

Without a car I don’t even think it’s possible, because FlixBus I think has only one run a day, and the train (via Florence) is about 4 hours each way.
