Transportation from Santa Margherita to Malpensa?

Hello All,
Our family of five will be traveling to Italy in June. We plan to rent a car after our visit to Venice and use it to explore the Tuscany area. Following Tuscany we'll spend a few nights in Santa Margherita, where I don't think we'll really need a car.
My question is:
What is the best way to get from Santa Margherita to the Malpensa airport in Milan? We can of course keep the car if that makes the most sense but if there is a decent train route that would take a few days off the car rental we'd try to get rid of it on the way to Santa Margherita.
Thank you in advance!

There are a few early morning train departures that run direct from S. Margherita Ligure to Milano Centrale station in about 2.5 hours; for this portion, see How to Look Up Train Schedules and Routes Online or www.trenitalia.com. From Milano Centrale, the Malpensa Express train takes roughly one more hour and runs twice per hour. Estimate about $50 per person for both trains at standard, last-minute prices, or the longer train has discounts for early booking.

Assuming you mean Santa Margherita Ligure, there are a few direct IC trains a day to Milano Centrale in 2 hours and 20 minutes. There are lots of connecting trains through Genoa. At Milano Centrale its about an hour to MXP on the Malpensa Express trains twice an hour.

If I were you, I would look carefully at the cost of transporting five people by train vs that of keeping the car a few more days. Normally, the additional cost isn't too bad. You would then have the convenience of just driving to Malpensa.
