Transportation from Rome Fiumicino Airport to Ripetta 25 Hotel

My wife and I will flying into the Rome Fiumicino Airport at 6:20pm this summer and was hoping I could get some help at finding the easiest way to get to our hotel (Ripetta 25). Now I've been doing some research and it appears as the easiest way to get out of the airport is to take the Leonardo Express Train to Termini Station. It appears we can buy our tickets right outside the train and this trip will take about 30 minutes (with trains departing twice every hour).

Provided that information is all correct above, does anyone have any recommendations at the easiest way for us to get from the Termini Train station to our hotel? Would we take a cab? If so, are they easy to flag down and reasonable rates?

Thanks for help in advance!

There should be a lot of taxis waiting outside the Termini train station. Another thing to consider is if there are enough of you to just get a cab at the airport and skip the train ride.

There is a taxi stand outside the front of Termini station, and it moves quickly. Get in line, if there is one - don't accept an offer to find a cab more quickly at another location. Rates are posted but there is usually a baggage charge. Taxis are very reasonable.

In this case, I would absolutely take a city taxi directly from the airport to the doorstep of your lodgings! You could take the LE (28€), then take a metro - climbing up and down stairs with your luggage - nearish your place (?€) and/or deal with the bus system with your luggage, then still have to walk...after a long flight...with your luggage...around 8:00 PM. Ugh. Or, take the taxi (48€). Hey, I'm as cheap as the next person, but in this case...

Take the taxi.

Tyler,

I'm sure you've seen the suggestions offered by your hotel on THEIR WEBSITE.

I'd suggest using the Leonardo Express to Roma Termini, as it's the quickest method and not affected by traffic. Yes, you can definitely buy tickets for the L.E. at the airport rail station, either from a staffed ticket office or from one of the Kiosks. One important point to mention - BE SURE to validate your tickets prior to boarding the train. Failure to do that could result in expensive fines which will be collected on the spot!

When you arrive at Termini, you have two options:

  1. Travel by Metro to the Spagna stop (direction Battastini, third stop from Termini) or Flaminio and then walk to your hotel (as suggested on their website). It's not difficult but you'll be jet lagged and tired so it probably won't be the most pleasant experience. To reach the Metro at Termini, you'll have to go down a couple of floors from track level where the L.E. arrives. It's all well marked. You can buy tickets from a Kiosk.
  2. Take a Taxi to your hotel. There will be LOTS of them waiting right outside the front door. Walk straight ahead with your back to the tracks, and then take the first Taxi in the rank. It would be a good idea to have the address written in Italian on a piece of paper to show the driver. Since the distance will be relatively short, the cost for the Taxi should be reasonable. That's the method I often use when arriving with luggage.

Happy travels!

Always know the cost of a cab trip BEFORE you arrive in a new city. Some posts here have already listed the cost from Fiumicino Airport. If you go to Termini Stazione, you can Google for the cost to your hotel BEFORE you arrive at Termini. You should have an idea of cost BEFORE you take the cab. Google cost considers distance, taxes/fees, number of luggage, number of persons, day and time of day, and/or also lists flat rates if they exist.
Termini has 2 taxi stands, better to use the stand at the outside bus terminal side at Piazza del Cinquecento, it's bigger with no waiting, taxis take up several lanes outside the doors, the big outside bus terminal is on the other side of those taxi lanes. Good idea to have hotel address already printed out to show driver.

Thank you for the replies. I think after weighing everything, due to the convenience factor we will just take a cab right from the airport to our hotel. Now I have been reading in the Rick Steves book about to make sure we are in a licensed cab. Is there an easily located line at the airport so I know the cab I am entering is legit?

Also, the 48 Euro flat fee for the ride, will that be clearly marked so in the cab on a sticker of some sort so I can make sure I am not getting a cab that does not go by that policy?

Finally, I know when eating out, there is usually no tipping like I'm used too, does the same go for cab rides? Or what is the "typical" amount to leave for a tip for that type of ride.

Thanks for your help!
