Transportation from Rome Fiumicino airport to Hotel Quirinale

Hello!

This will be my first visit to Rome. What will be the better transportation option from the Rome airport to the hotel?

Thanks!!

Elizabeth, I'd take the Leonardo Express (14 euro pp) train to Termini, and just walk from there: your hotel is close enough to do that. If budget is tight, take one of the airport shuttle buses to Termini (Terravision or SIT are good ones) for as little as 4 euro. Tickets are easily purchased when you arrive.

Your hotel looks lovely, BTW! I'm guessing you probably don't need the budget option from the airport? :O)
Are you traveling alone or with a companion? If budget isn't a factor - and there are two of you - a cab from the airport might be an option to look at: flat rate of 45 euro. Private transfers are also available for same or not much more, and I'm sure some RS travelers who've used those will have suggestions.

Elizabeth,

First of all, congratulations!

If you want to splurge, you could use a Taxi as I believe they have a fixed rate of about €48 into central Rome. However depending on what time your flight arrives, traffic could make the trip longer.

The easiest and quickest solution will be to use the Leonardo Express as mentioned earlier, which makes the trip to Roma Termini in about 32 minutes (and no concerns about traffic). You can buy tickets right at the airport rail station. However a couple of important points to mention.....

  • there are two trains serving FCO, the Leonardo Express and the FM/FR-1. Be sure to board the correct train!
  • tickets for the L.E. Express MUST BE validated (time & date stamped) prior to boarding the train. If you forget to do that, you'll be subject to hefty fines which will be collected on the spot! Look for the small yellow or green & gray machines close to the tracks, and just watch what everyone else does. The aspect of validating tickets also applies to Metro and Buses in Rome (and elsewhere in Italy), so don't forget!

Although Hotel Quirinale is reasonably close to Termini, arriving when jet lagged and towing luggage, I'd probably use a Taxi as it won't cost much. There are number of one-way streets in that area, so the driver may have to take a slightly longer route. There's a large Taxi rank right outside Termini station. With the tracks behind you, walk straight ahead and out the front doors, and it will be right there. Take the next Taxi in the queue. You might want to have the name and address of the hotel written in Italian on a small piece of paper to show the driver.

Buon Viaggio!

Since you asked for the best way, consider a private car service. After the stress of the wedding, a long flight, some jet lag, not being familiar with the area, there will be nothing better than having your private driver meet you inside the terminal and whisk you and hubby to the hotel. No fending off "outlaw" cabbies in the terminal, waiting in the regular taxi line, or just having a "lost" feeling. It is not the cheapest way, but it is definitely the best. We can not say enough good things about Rome Cabs. It is a private car service (not a cab company) but only cost about 10 Euro more than a regular flat rate taxi. We always use them and have always been very pleased. Go to romecabs.com and see what you think. We usually send an email and they answer us with a quote within 24 hours. You do have to pay cash (Euros) and the end of the journey but not in advance.

Oops: typo! Taxi rate is €48, as Ken noted, and not €45.

I agree with TC. Once you get your bags there will be a nice Italian man holding a sign with you name and take you to directly to your hotel. Just do an internet search for private transfer rome airport, that should do the trick. Enjoy your honeymoon.

I have to chuckle just a little as the hotel is so close to Termini that if I asked a cabbie to take me the same distance in my own city, he'd very likely refuse: too small a fare to bother with! :O)

Elizabeth, the last time we were in Rome we stayed on Via delle Quattro Fontane, just two blocks further down Via Nazionale than where you'll be, and 1/2 block off of it. To work off the looooong sit in the plane, head straight down Via Nazionale (there's at least one ATM along the way for your first batch of euros) and bang, you'll end up in Ancient Rome (Trajan's Market and Forum, Roman Forum, your first look at the Colosseum, etc). You'll see plenty from the streets so no need to do any serious sightseeing just yet; just take in the view and find a terrace someplace for that first celebratory adult beverage!
