Transportation from Naples to Rome

Question is confusing. You are looking to book a flight from Naples to Berlin, why are you then taking a train to Rome? Maybe I am missing something.

If you will be in Sorrento, you are doing just fine by flying to Berlin from Naples. You can easily do this on Air Berlin, a fine budget airline. There are buses from Sorrento to the Naples airport. Should you need to change and fly out of Rome=FCO, you are easily 3hrs away by train. First, you need to take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples, then you take the train from Naples to Rome Termini. Finally, you take the Leonardo Express from Rome Termini to the Rome-FCO airport. All 3 train run quite frequently (at least twice an hour). If your flight out of Rome is early, you won't make it on the same morning by taking the public trains. They generally don't start until around 5:00am so the earliest you will be at FCO is about 8:00am. You'll need at least 2hrs to check in at FCO for your Inter-EU flight.

The only direct non stop option from NAP to Berlin SXF is with EasyJet, departing NAP at 13:50. Any other option would require a change somewhere (Rome, Frankfurt, Munich, etc).
Trains from Naples to Rome are very frequent, even more than one every hour depending on when. Travel time is just over one hour. From Rome Termini to the Rome Airport is another 35 min. with the Leonardo Express shuttle train.

Yvonne, The easiest and simplest method would be to travel via Curreri Viaggi Bus from Sorrento to Naples Airport. As I recall, the fare is about €10 PP. I agree with the suggestion by Roberto to use EasyJet, however it should be noted that on Saturdays they only have one flight, which departs at 19:55 and arrive at SXF at 22:15. Current fares for March are indicated at €29.49 (plus fees of course). It appears that Air Berlin doesn't offer any flights on Saturdays. If you decide to use EasyJet, be sure to read their "Terms & Conditions" carefully, especially related to luggage weights. If you think your checked luggage may be over their allowable limit, pay for the extra weight at the time of booking as it's more expensive if you do it at the gate. Note that usually only ONE carry-on item of the approved size is allowed. That doesn't mean "one item plus a personal item such as a Purse or Laptop case", it means ONE ONLY. Many budget airlines use a "sliding scale", so seat prices will increase at the flight starts to fill. Tickets are often non-refundable and non-changeable. Also, be sure to let your Hotel in Berlin know that you'll be a "late arrival", so they don't rent your room to someone else. Happy travels!

I am considering traveling to Rome for the flight due to the time schedules I have found on line and the flight patterns appear to go through Paris, some transferring to a different airport. Thought there may be more flexibility out of Rome.

Do you have an idea on how early the buses from Sorrento start their routes on a Saturday?

If I were to consider taking a train from either Naples or Rome, do you know if there are high speed Trains that would travel from these locations and how long the train ride would be?

Sorry, I'm still confused, probably because the questions leave things out. Do you want a high speed train from Naples to Rome? Or Rome to Berlin? If the former there are frequent trains, they take about 1:10, at least one an hour from 6:40am. There are earlier trains, for example 4:02 but it is a Regionale and takes 2:21. If the latter, no. There is a high speed train on the segment from Roma (or Napoli) to Milano, and another from Basel to Berlin, but the Milano to Basel is a normal EuroCity train. The journey takes at least 15 and a half hours (from Roma).

Yvonne, Travelling to Rome will definitely provide more flight options. However, that method will most likely take longer and be more expensive. If you wish to travel to Rome rather than flying from Naples, the easiest method would be: > Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Naples. ~1H:03M (hopefully they're not still suffering from "service disruptions" at that time) > Freccia (fast train from Naples to Roma Termini, 1H:10M, and then Leonardo Express to FCO (about 35M). > EasyJet flight from FCO to SXF; departure will be at 14:35, arriving at 16:50 (there's also a departure at 07:10, but there's no way you'd be able to connect with that unless you stayed in Rome the night prior to your flight) Travel by train from Naples to Berlin will be more difficult, as travel times range from about 17H to 24H. Some of the night trains have changes in the "wee hours" of the morning, so that's not something I'd recommend. Cheers!
