Hi. Wondering if anyone has traveled from Naples to Matera via public transport in 2022. I searched Flix buses and they all depart by 7 a.m. We are arriving via cruise ship and will not have disembarked by 7. I searched trenitalia and trenitalo and neither of them provided me an option. it appears that trenitalo had a train then bus option in 2019 but I couldn't find it now.
There is a Freccialink bus from Salerno to Matera, but it can only be booked in combination with a train. In other words, you need to arrive in Salerno by train.
Try Caserta to Matera. That is what we had booked last year (but were unable to take the trip).
Take the train to Salerno. From there you can take Itabus to Matera. https://www.itabus.it/en/home
Depending on the time frame for you, you can stay in Salerno overnight and then catch the bus. We stayed at Hotel Bruman. It is attached the the train station so very convenient. Nice place to stay. Enjoy Matera. It is one of the most amazing city to stay in.
You can do it with three trains.
Napoli to Caserta
Caserta to Bari
Bari to Matera.
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Unfortunately I still can't find anything. I am looking for October 22nd so maybe that is just too late in the season for public transport. We may have to rent a car or change our plans to go somewhere else.
The above mentioned 3 trains run 365 days a year, but it would be a pain. The Train&bus combo by Trenitalia is onsale only up to September 30. I guess for lack of demand.
If Flixbus departs too early, wait for these 2 local companies to upload their fall schedules:

However, I'd just take a train from Naples to Salerno and rent a car.
