I'm searching for the best way to get from Lake Como to Basel, or the other way around. Not sure if there are actually train connections. Looking do a pre or post at Lake Como before or after a river cruise that begins or ends in Basel. Has anyone done this and have advice? Thanks!
From where on Lake Como?
There are direct trains from Milan to Basel
You should have to get to Como San Giovanni station, take a train north to Switzerland and then change somewhere to an internal Swiss train connection - where, it depends on specific trains and times.
But if you are on the west Como lake coast (that is, Varenna), it may be that going back to Milan (or sometimes Monza) and changing there is the quickest itinerary.
The Como lake has an inverted Y form, the railway line skirts the lake at Como and and moving around the lake area is very slow, so the exact place where you are starting from makes a lot of difference.
