What is the simplest way to get to Vernazza from the Genoa airport? We are meeting our daughter's family in Genoa when they fly in mid-afternoon They are not experienced travelers. We are thinking they can take the Volabus to Genoa Brignole where we will meet them. We can then take the train together to Monterosso and then Vernazza. Does anyone recommend something else?

Genoa Airport station or Genoa Sestri Ponente station to La Spezia ( 2hrs.). Then La Spezia to Vernazza (20 minutes).

You have it right - no need to go to La Spezia and backtrack, as there are a number of Regionale trains that stop at Monterosso. For simpler but a bit longer and less frequency, you can take the airline bus to the station at the airport and then one train to Monterosso. Going to one of the Genova train stations requires an additional change, but is faster overall. Many options available.

Make that Genoa Piazza Principe or Genoa Nervi to Vernazza in 1:13 to 1:45 depending on which train you take.
